Wednesday season 1 was released on Netflix on November 23, 2022.

Wednesday season 2, a horror drama-comedy was renewed in January 2023 but its shooting was paused following the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strike.

Last week the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) ended their 118-day strike against the streaming giants and studios for better wages, benefits, and artists’ control on the use of AI to replicate their likenesses. While the strike, concluded on November 9, the union’s full membership is yet to approve the new three-year contract laid out between the union representatives and the studios and streaming services. However, it is more or less believed that the contract will be approved by the majority. Since the SAG-AFTRA strike’s conclusion the production houses are preparing to restart the shootings that were put on a halt due to the strike.

On Monday, Variety confirmed that Netflix will begin the shooting of Wednesday season 2 in April. This time, the horror drama-comedy will be shot in Ireland instead of Romania.

For its first season, the eight-episode show was shot around September 2021 to March 2022. After the post-production, it was finally released on Netflix on November 23, 2022. If this same timeline is to be followed, which means seven months of filming and eight months of post-production and promotions, then season 2 will not air before 2025. Season two of Wednesday was renewed in January 2023 but its shooting was paused following the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strike that followed in May and June respectively.

Within three weeks of its release last year, Wednesday became the second-most watched English-language Netflix series. The show, based on The Addams Family franchise, stars Jenna Ortega in the lead role, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. The rest of the cast comprises Emma Myers, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Gwendoline Christie, Isaac Ordonez, and Fred Armisen.

As per the series, IMDb description, the show is explained as, “A sleuthing supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.”

In the show, Jenna Ortega learns to master her psychic ability and stops a mysterious killing spree that has been terrorizing the local town.

Along with Wednesday, other shows and movies such as the new season of Stranger Things, White Lotus season 3, and movies like Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Beetlejuice 2, and Deadpool 3 are set to start shooting soon.
