‘Sold My House To Make This Film:’ Sohum Shah On Tumbbad Completing 5 Years –

Tumbadd is considered one of the best-underrated films in Bollywood.

Soham revealed how he faced a financial crisis while making this film.

In the year 2018, one Bollywood film became the talk of the town. The fantasy thriller film didn’t create any box office records, but it did take home several awards and excellent reviews. We are talking about Tumbbad. This Sohum Shah-starrer film is considered one of the best underrated films in Indian cinema of all times, and a cinematic masterpiece. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the film took 7 years to complete. Sohum Shah, who was also co-producing the film, had to drop several projects to complete it.

Not only this, but he also had to face financial difficulties to make Tumbbad. The film was completed 5 years after its release yesterday, on October 12. On this special day, Sohum Shah spoke about Tumbbad in a recent interview with a media portal. Soham revealed how he faced a financial crisis while making this film. To get out of this, he sold his flat along with all the properties he had. “I heard that when Raj Kapoor was making films, he too had to sell his house,” Soham said, adding that making a film is like raising a child.

Sohum Shah said, “Though the film Tumbad falls under the horror category, I do not consider it a horror film. If you have watched the movie properly, you will realise that its theme is similar to the folk tales told by our grandmother. I always thought that we didn’t have such topics. These topics are worth talking about.” He added that during Tumbbad’s shooting, he once had the urge to stop its filming. During those times, he said he always told himself that if he didn’t make this film, then who will? That’s how he kept going.

Talking about the VFX used in the film, Soham said that they brought a VFX expert from Sweden. The man thought that they were a fraud. So he asked them to pay him in advance. “The last 3 years were very difficult — when I and my co-director and editor and Pranav Thakkar were the only people left. At that time no one believed that the film would actually be released,” said Sohum.
