The Indian driver bagged pole position and two race wins at the GT Cup Snetterton 300 finale.
Indian racer Sai Sanjay impressed on his debut outing in the UK-based GT Cup Championship. Driving a McLaren Artura GT4 for team Racelab, the 2022 MRF F2000 champion scored two wins at the Snetterton 300 finale. His performance also earned him the title of ‘Driver of the Day’.

On the opening day of the competition, Sanjay’s teammate Callum Davies put the #13 Racelab Artura on pole and went on to win the first Sprint Race. Davies also ran the first stint in the Feature Race before handing the car to Sanjay. The Indian held on to the lead and crossed the line to take victory in what was his first-ever time racing in a GT car.
The next day, Sanjay bagged pole – even improving on teammate Davies’ pole time. He followed that up with a lights-to-flag victory in the second Sprint Race, with a massive lead of over 30 secs. Both Sanjay and Davies had to settle for P2 in the final Feature Race, though, after running into traffic. Nevertheless, this ensured that he finished on the podium in every single race over the weekend.
“Competing in the UK for the first time in a GT4 car has been an exhilarating experience,” said Sanjay. “I was elated to know that I would’ve been in the top five of the British GT Championship with my time in qualifying. Looking ahead, I’m planning to explore the car more at Silverstone as we had very limited track time prior to the race weekend.”
Sanjay’s driver coach Jon Lancaster added that he “adapted well making his transition from single-seaters to GT cars.” “We had an open mind before the first test but just after five laps in Donnington, I was super excited. He has been very professional and his feedback about the car has been good. He’s been the fastest man all weekend and a very promising start indeed,” said Lancaster.
