Urban Company launches water purifier range; to be available via third-party retailers

Home services platform Urban Company on Wednesday launched a range of water purifiers under the brand name ‘Native’, taking live its pilot of testing private-label consumer products.

The Gurgaon-based company has been working on introducing its own line of consumer products for almost two years now, and is currently experimenting with smart locks.

“One pain point we constantly hear from customers is why water purifiers need filter changes and servicing every few months. We decided to address this problem head-on with our new range of Native water purifiers. The water purifiers perform … for two years without needing any service… Thereafter, they only need servicing once in two years,” said Abhiraj Singh Bhal, cofounder and CEO, Urban Company.

The company will sell the water purifiers—available in two models—on its own platform as well as on Amazon and Tata-owned Croma stores.

Speaking to ET, Aditya Shrivastava, Urban Company’s senior vice president, business, said that the firm will continue looking at new areas where it can solve customer problems. “We are experimenting with smart locks…it’s in the stage where we are trying to find out if we can add value for our customers. If we feel we have a good solution to offer then we will go to the market for our consumers to experience it,” Shrivastava said.

He added that the water purifier product was designed primarily for Indian consumers. Apart from India, the Tiger Global and Prosus-backed company has a presence in the UAE and the US, among other countries. “I feel that we will be live in one of our other geographies with consumer products,” Shrivastava added.
