Odia Film Producer Tutu Nayak Arrested For Assaulting Woman Journalist –


The police booked Nayak after the journalist lodged a complaint at the Kharvel Nagar police station demanding action against him.

On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered against the producer and  a probe was inititiated. The CCTV footage of the incident was also checked before arresting the accused film producer

Odisha Police have arrested film producer Sanjay Nayak for allegedly misbehaving with a woman journalist at a theatre in Bhubaneshwar.

Nayak, also known as Tutu was arrested after being quizzed at the Kharvel Nagar police station  for allegedly slapping and abusing a woman journalist, Debasmita Rout, when she was reporting near Sriya-Swati cinema hall in the city. The police booked Nayak after the journalist lodged a complaint at the Kharvel Nagar police station demanding action against him. On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered against the producer and  a probe was inititiated. The CCTV footage of the incident was also checked before arresting the accused film producer.

Breiefing about the incident, Kharavel Nagar police station IIC said, “On the basis of the complaint we have registered a case and started a probe. We have also checked CCTV footage. As per investigation he has been arrested.”

The incident sparked a widespread outrage among people following which multiple FIRs were lodged. Earlier in the day, members of Odisha Women in Media (OWM) called on Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh and submitted a memorandum demanding a fair probe in this connection. The State Commission for Women also sought a report from the Commissioner of Police and the commission chairman has ordered the commission to report within 15 days.

Chairman of State Commission for Women, Dr. Minati Behera said that a case has been registered after the incident came to light. “The police commissioner has been directed to submit a report within 15 days”, she added.

Senior member of Odisha Women in Media (OWM), Soumya Parida condemned the incident. “We have met DCP and demanded action. DCP has assured to take immediate action”, Parida said.
