Mitsubishi XForce price, debut, Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi Montero

The XForce is Mitsubishi’s first new SUV in a long time; will go on sale in Indonesia first.

Mitsubishi has taken the wraps off the XForce, its first SUV in a long time. The all-new SUV will go on sale in Indonesia first, and is primarily aimed towards the ASEAN market, at least for starters. The Japanese brand aims to introduce the XForce in more international markets, like the Middle East and Latin America, among others.

Mitsubishi XForce performance and exterior

At the heart of all things XForce is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 105hp with 141Nm of torque and sends power to the front wheels. Mitsubishi has paired the motor with a continous variable transmission (CVT). Despite being a FWD car, it features four drive modes (Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud) and utilises Mitsubishi’s legendary Active YAW Control system first introduced in the Lancer Evolution 4.

While based on the XFC Concept first revealed at the Vietnam Auto Show late last year, the XForce features a toned-down exterior and takes some design cues from other Renault-Nissan SUVs. Based on a 2,650mm wheelbase, the XForce is 4,390mm in length, 1,810mm width, 1,660mm in height and boasts a 222mm ground clearance. Mitsubishi claims the cabin is the most spacious and practical in its segment.

On the inside, the XForce features a 12.3-inch touch infotainment screen and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. There is also an 8-speaker sound system developed by Yamaha as a part of the Mitsubishi-Yamaha collaboration. The XForce also gets multiple USB ports, smartphone holders and a wireless charger in the centre console. Speaking of which, it also gets a cooled storage compartment. The seats feature stain-resistant fabric upholstery and the rear seats can also be reclined.

Will the XForce be launched in India?

Mitsubishi was once a popular car brand in India up until a few years ago, but it has since left the Indian car market. Despite being a part of the Renault-Nissan global alliance, there is no official confirmation on its India return. It has instead turned its attention towards markets such as Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia with the introduction of the XForce that will bolster its SUV portfolio in these regions.

Mitsubishi’s sister brands Renault and Nissan, however, are still going strong in the Indian market with models such as the Renault Kiger and Triber, and the Nissan Magnite, respectively. The Alliance’s future focus includes the production of six new vehicles, including two EVs that will be manufactured in India.
