Junior Mehmood passed away on Friday after he prolonged battle with cancer. His funeral took place in Mumbai.

Junior Mehmood Passes Away: Veteran comic actor Junior Mehmood died in the wee hours of Friday, December 8, after a prolonged battle with cancer. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon in Mumbai and many actors were seen offering their last respects. The paparazzi spotted veteran actor Raza Murad present at the funeral. He was seated with a few other stars from the industry. Also present at the funeral was Master Raju. The actor was seen spending time with Junior Mehmood in his last days.

Best known for his role in movies like Caravan and Suhaag Raat, Junior Mehmood died at the age of 67. he was battling with cancer. It is reported that his condition worsened on Thursday night. He was rushed to the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai’s Parel area after his condition deteriorated. He was put on oxygen support but he couldn’t survive.

His friend Salam Kazi confirmed the news of his death to ETimes. He also revealed that the funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at the Juhu Muslim Cemetery. Junior Mehmood will be buried in the same cemetery as his mother. His family also issued a statement about his death. “Junior Mehmood passed away at 2:15 am at his residence. He was suffering from stomach cancer. May his eternal soul rest in peace,” they said in a statement to Indian Express.

Several Bollywood stars had visited Jr Mehmood earlier this month after learning about his battle with cancer. This includes Johnny Lever and Jeetender.

Who was Junior Mehmood?

Junior Mehmood, who was originally named Naeem Sayyed, shot to fame as a child artist. It is said that Mehmood was highly impressed with the Naeem’s work that he bestowed him when they worked in 1968’s Suhaag Raat with his screen name — Junior Mehmood. The star worked in several movies, including Naunihal, Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, Mera Naam Joker, Suhaag Raat, Brahmachari, Kati Patang, Hare Raama Hare Krishna, Geet Gaata Chal, Imaandaar, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Aaj Ka Arjun, Gurudev, Chhote Sarkar and Judaai. He also had a brief TV career.
