SM Entertainment released an official statement to clarify and deny the reports about Chanyeol and Sehun leaving the agency and joining a new one.
EXO members Chanyeol and Sehun recently grabbed headlines as a few reports suggested that the two artists are exploring new opportunities for their solo careers. It was initially believed that they were in talks to sign with a new agency under the former iHQ CEO Jeong Hoon-tak, following their alleged departure from SM Entertainment. This information was initially reported by SBS news, with a source close to the K-pop stars confirming their intentions for solo endeavours. However, in a recent development, SM Entertainment issued an official statement refuting the claims made by a prominent Korean news portal about Chanyeol and Sehun leaving the company.
Responding to the rumours, the agency told Xports News, “Chanyeol and Sehun’s agency transfer is not true. The contract between SM and EXO members signed at the end of last year is valid and EXO’s activities will continue at SM. However, only for the members’ individual activities, if the members wish to do so under their exclusive contract with SM, we have decided to conditionally allow them to proceed through a corporation established by the members themselves.”
Previous reports indicated that EXO members Chanyeol and Sehun had reached an agreement with SM Entertainment that would permit them to pursue individual opportunities through the new agency while simultaneously remaining part of EXO’s group activities.
This news comes after other EXO members Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen decided to terminate their contracts with SM Entertainment, due to “mistreatment and unfair contract terms.” Their lawyer, Lee Jae-hak, claimed that their agency never clearly provided clear data about the finances of the idols since their debut in 2012. SM Entertainment, in response, refuted these allegations and suggested that “outside individuals are attempting to damage their reputation.”
Reports indicate that in June 2023, Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen, along with their agency SM Entertainment, were able to reach a resolution and settle their differences.
Amid all the drama, EXO’s Chanyeol has delighted his fans with the announcement of his upcoming solo single, Good Enough. For the announcement, a teaser poster for the song was released and it has generated excitement among his followers. This new solo single follows his previous release, Tomorrow, which came out in 2021. Meanwhile, Good Enough is scheduled for release on October 20 and fans are eager to listen to the track.
