Atlee CONFIRMS He’s Writing Film For Vijay and Shah Rukh Khan: ‘They Said Bring a Script…’ –

Jawan director Atlee has confirmed he is working on a script that could feature Shah Rukh Khan and Thalapathy Vijay. In a new interview, the filmmaker recalled his famous birthday party from last year, which was attended by SRK and Vijay, and revealed that the superstars have approached him to pen a script that could accomodate both the stars. Atlee admitted that he initially thought it was a passing conversation but later understood that Vijay and Shah Rukh are serious about the collaboration.

Speaking with Siddharth Kannan, Atlee broke down the events that unfolded at his birthday last year. Atlee recalled that he and Shah Rukh were shooting a schedule of Jawan in Chennai when he was suddenly informed that he was getting a two-day break from his schedule. He confessed that he had forgotten his birthday was coming and was reminded only after Gaurav Varma, co-producer of Jawan, told him. He added that the team called his film a ‘national holiday’ for Red Chillies Entertainment.

He revealed that since he was in Chennai, he decided to host a small party with the cast and crew of Jawan and invited Vijay as well. “I called Vijay Anna, he has attended every birthday party of mine so he came. Bringing two icons under one roof was something else. It happened naturally. Vijay sir was very happy meeting Shah Rukh sir. Their discussion was something else, it was a dream come true (vision) to me. They were talking like kids — morning what time do you get up, how much workout do you do, what do you have — so it was very fun (to watch),” he said.

“They both told me, ‘Atlee, bring a script that we both can do.’ Vijay sir and Shah Rukh sir said yes. They said, ‘One day you bring the script, definitely we will (star in it).’ I also thought they were just saying for that day, like a birthday gift. The next day, Vijay sir messaged saying ‘If you’re going to write, I am definitely going to be a part of it.’ Shah Rukh sir, who was next to me at the time, said, ‘Sir, you’re serious about it no? We are going to make a film together no?'” he said. Atlee revealed that both the stars often enquire about it.

Jawan has been ruling the box office since its release. The film, which stars SRK in double role and Nayathara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles, is racing towards the Rs 500 crore collection. Jawan is also racing towards the Rs 900 crore mark worldwide. While the film has great business at the box office, Atlee confessed he is ready to take the film to Oscars.
