Apple may reportedly launch second-generation Apple Watch Ultra at its fall event later this year. In the latest edition of PowerOn newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that ‘the company is focused on several key updates for the second half of this year and the first half of 2024.”
He says that Apple may bring an updated version of the Ultra that are currently codenamed N207, N208 and N210. In addition, the company may bring two Apple Watch Series 9 models along with the iPhone 15 lineup this fall.
He also mentioned other products that may come later. The list includes
- An M3 13-inch MacBook Pro (codenamed J504).
- M3 Pro and M3 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros (codenamed J514 and J516).
- New iMacs (codenamed J433 and J434) with 24-inch screens, like the current models. The company is also conducting early work on an iMac with a screen over 30 inches, I’m told.
- New MacBook Air models (codenamed J613 and J615).
- Revamped iPad Pros with OLED screens (codenamed J717 and J720).
- A new iPad Air (codenamed J507) to replace the current M1-based model.
Gurman further states that “there are also a few products in early development, including a third-generation version of the AirPods and new home equipment such as smart displays, as well as an Apple TV set-top box with improved specifications.” Talking about the next generation of the headsets, he mentions that the device won’t probably begin arriving until 2025.
Meanwhile, reliable Apple analyst – Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple is planning to introduce an improved Ultra Wideband chip (UWB) with the iPhone 15. The upgraded chipset will deliver improved performance and reduced power consumption for nearby interactions. He says that it may require the production process moving from 16nm to more advanced 7nm.
Apple has used the same U1 UWB chip since the iPhone 11. The chipset is also used in Apple Watch Series 6 and above generations along with Apple HomePod mini, the second-gen HomePod, the new AirPods Pro’s case, and AirTags. The U1 offers features like Find My features, Handoff, Precision Finding, and AirDrop.
