Zoya Akhtar reveals she’d love to work with Salman Khan but says it will only happen when the right subject appeals to both of them.
The iconic screenwriting duo Salim-Javed defined an era in Indian cinema, crafting stories that have become legendary. However, their children — filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and superstar Salman Khan — have yet to collaborate on a project. Zoya, daughter of Javed Akhtar, recently hinted that such a collaboration would be “delicious,” but it hinges on finding the perfect subject that resonates with both of them.
Zoya Akhtar, known for her critically acclaimed films like Luck by Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Gully Boy, expressed her enthusiasm about the possibility of working with Salman Khan, son of Salim Khan. Salman, one of the biggest stars in Bollywood, is known for delivering massy blockbusters that resonate with audiences across the country.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Zoya discussed the idea of a potential collaboration with Salman, saying, “It would be amazing! He is a megastar who has got a crazy persona and a huge fanbase. I have to obviously find a subject that works for him, his fans, and me. The minute we find a subject, it would be delicious, it would be a lot of fun.”
Zoya, who is co-producing the upcoming Amazon Prime Video documentary Angry Young Men—which delves into the life and career of Salim-Javed—shared an anecdote about meeting Salman Khan to discuss the docu-series. She and her brother, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, visited Salman at his iconic Galaxy apartment. “It was fun, we were in his lawn and had some tea, all his nephews were around. It was a nice feeling to be back at Galaxy because we grew up there and played in that garden,” Zoya reminisced.
The conversation between the siblings and Salman touched on everything under the sun, with Salman being particularly open about the past. Zoya noted that, as someone older, Salman had witnessed more of Salim-Javed’s glory days than she and Farhan had, and he shared memories that were both nostalgic and insightful.
During the trailer launch of Angry Young Men, Salim and Javed hinted at a possible reunion for a new film, sparking excitement among fans. Zoya, when asked about this, said, “I don’t know what they were cooking between them, but I hope I get to direct it! Because there are many contenders in the family, so I hope I get it!”
