Deepinder Goyal, CEO and MD of Zomato, shared the update on Twitter.
“If one looks up the United Nations definition of sustainable development, it is described as – ‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’,” Goyal wrote in a blog on Zomato’s website. “We want to build a Zomato that outlives the current generation – as an organisation that continues to positively contribute to society long after we’ve left,” he wrote.

Her are some highlights of
the report:
- Climate-conscious deliveries: Addressing carbon emission by fully moving to electric vehicles by 2030. Almost 4,500 delivery partners were using EVs as of March 2022. It said it offset 500,000 tonnes of carbon in FY22 and delivered 18% of its total orders using bicycles in the same fiscal.
- Waste reduction: 100% plastic-neutral deliveries from April 2022, 300 tonnes of plastic reduction in FY22 (by making ‘no cutlery required’ the default option).
- Solving hunger and malnutrition: Serves two lakh meals a day through a programme in 39 cities across India.
- Benefitting restaurant and delivery partners through growth opportunities: Flexible gig opportunities and training to over 300,000 delivery partners.
- Health and wellbeing of stakeholders across value chain: Free medical insurance and disability/death coverage, reimbursement of covid expenses including vaccination charges.
- Equal opportunity: 50% female directors on Zomato board, 30% leadership roles served by women, six months parental leave policy irrespective of gender.
“Our aim is to be at the forefront of this journey in our part of the world, and also lead and inspire other startups to do better. Collective action is a bigger goal for us, than just fixing what we break ourselves,” Goyal wrote.
