Zomato crosses 2-mn orders ‘first time in a single day’ on New Year’s Eve, CEO Deepinder Goyal shares live updates on Twitter


The current spate of Covid-19 cases has impacted businesses of all kinds and sizes. Founder and CEO of , Deepinder Goyal, took to Twitter to show his support for the restaurants in this difficult situation.


Food delivery giant Zomato registered two million orders in a single day which happened to be the last day of 2021. An elated Goyal was seen to be live-tracking the orders from across the country.

At around 9 pm on Friday, Goyal said that the company had clocked 2 million orders and was still counting. According to Goyal, all the orders amounted to around Rs 91 crore.

“OMG! 2 million orders! First time in a single day. Three more hours to go.,” he tweeted.

On the last day of the year, the entrepreneur had tweeted saying, “Big day today for the restaurant industry. Stay home, stay safe, and order away. We are ready to serve you.”

In another tweet he had shared an image of his team gearing up to track orders on the big day.

In the middle of all the excitement, the suave CEO forgot to place an order for himself. Later, his dinner that he ordered from Zomato, arrived 10 minutes early giving him all the more reasons to beam with pride. Yes, all these developments he shared live on Twitter with his half a million followers.

Earlier this month, the food delivery giant had released its annual report revealing the food trends in India in 2021. Biryani topped the chart with customers ordering it every two seconds on Zomato.

According to the report, a man in Ahmedabad placed the year’s biggest order – for Rs 33,000. A girl named Shweta made 12 orders for ice-creams with Zomato in a day.

The company said that butter masala, butter naan were together ordered over 1.1 million times this year. Dosa was the second most favourite dish with over 8.8 million orders. While momos were ordered 10.5 lakh times, samosas were ordered over seven lakh times. Vada pav took the third spot among snacks, with around 3 lakh orders in 2021.
