YouTube rolling out song, album credits to its music service

Video-sharing platform YouTube is rolling out song and album credits to its music streaming service ‘YouTube Music‘.

With this new feature, users will be able to see song and album credits when listening to music, reports 9To5Google, a tech publication covering Google.

The feature, where users can instantly see detailed song information, such as who the singer is and who wrote, produced, and composed each track, has long been a part of many other streaming services like Tidal.

If the feature is enabled to the users’ account, then they will see a ‘View song credits’ option when accessing the overflow menu on YouTube Music.

Users will be able to see data about the music such as who wrote the song, who performed it and who produced it, and from where the music metadata was sourced, the report said.

Meanwhile, last week, the video-sharing platform announced that US creators can now create podcasts in YouTube Studio and the inclusion of podcasts in the company’s Music app is coming soon.

The platform mentioned that “a podcast show is a playlist, and podcast episodes are videos in that playlist”.Focus on creators

In his first official communication to the creators’ community after taking over as YouTube’s CEO, Neal Mohan said his priority was to leverage their content to build the next path of success for YouTube.

“Creators and artists are the heart of YouTube, and I’ll continue to put them first. In today’s challenging macroeconomic climate, we’re offering opportunities to grow a business on our platform,” Mohan said in a company blog post.

Referring to a research from Oxford Economics, he said YouTube’s creative ecosystem supported more than two million jobs in 2021 in Brazil, Canada, the United States, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, France, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, and Turkey combined.

The India-origin CEO had also listed the measures YouTube will put in place to support the creator ecosystem such as offering creators more ways to make money, listening to them and growing the overall community.

“Hundreds of thousands of channels made money on YouTube for the first time last year. And we’re providing more opportunities for creators outside of ads by expanding our subscriptions business, investing in shopping, and continually improving our paid digital goods offerings. These options for creators make an impact,” the CEO said.

YouTube will also be coming up with more features to enhance streaming and the overall connected TV experience.
