The deadline for linking Aadhaar and a voter ID card has been extended by the Indian government. The deadline, which was originally set for March 31, 2023, has been extended by one year to March 31, 2024, granting relief to holders of Voter ID cards. However, it is essential to keep in mind that the user’s preference alone determines whether or not to link Voter ID and Aadhaar.
On June 17, 2022, the Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification extending the previous deadline, which was March 31, 2023. If individuals choose to link their IDs, the extension until 2024 gives them more time to do so.
The procedure for linking Voter ID and Aadhaar is fairly straightforward. To begin, go to the nvsp.in website of the National Voters’ Services Portal and select the “Search in Electoral Roll” option from the home page. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number associated with your Aadhaar after you enter your personal information and Aadhaar number. In less than ten minutes, the two IDs will be linked by entering the OTP on the website.
Even though the extension gives people more time to link their Voter ID with Aadhaar, it’s important to remember that it’s not required. It should be based on convenience and personal preference to link the two IDs.
People who may have struggled to meet the deadline are relieved by the extension, and it is hoped that the additional time will encourage more people to link their IDs for easier access to various government programs and services.
