XUV700 petrol has lesser waiting than diesel; 1.7 lakh bookings gathered so far



XUV700 is currently gathering around 10,000 bookings every month; petrol variants have relatively lesser waiting period.


The Mahindra XUV700’s waiting periods have seen a steady increase ever since the SUV’s market launch, and the manufacturer has now announced that the XUV700 is still gathering around 10,000 bookings every month. Dealers have collected around 1.7 lakh units since launch and the current order backlog stands at around 78,000 units, thanks to an improvement in semiconductor chip supply. Sales of the XUV700 are averaging around 3,800 units a month and are on a steady rise.

Mahindra XUV700: variants and delivery timeline at dealers

Having conducted over 78,000 ‘open’ bookings and registering over 1,70,000 units of the XUV700 SUV, Mahindra executive director Rajesh Jejurikar has stated that the cancellation of bookings range between 10-12 percent despite an 18-24 month waiting period. We spoke to a few dealers for a ground level check on the XUV700’s actual waiting periods and delivery details. 

As far as automatic variants go, the XUV700 AX5 petrol automatic can be delivered in around six months. The next in line is the AX5 diesel automatic variant that currently has a waiting period of around eight months at most locations. 

The entry-level XUV700 MX currently has a three to four month waiting period for the petrol variant and around six months for the diesel-powered version. The XUV700 MX diesel comes with 155hp, 2.2-litre engine, while the petrol gets a 200hp, 2.0-litre turbocharged powerplant. 

The manual gearbox-equipped XUV700 AX7 petrol can be delivered in around six months whereas the AX5 diesel takes around eight months. The XUV700 AX line-up comes with the more powerful 182hp, 2.2-litre diesel engine while the petrol versions come with the same 200hp, 2.0-litre unit. 

Finally, the top-spec XUV700 AX7 L, which is currently the most sought after variant, has a waiting period of eight months and 10 months for the petrol and diesel automatic, respectively.

Mahindra XUV700: rivals in India

The SUV’s price tag ranges between the Rs 13.18 lakh-24.58 lakh mark (ex-showroom, India), and competes with the likes of 5-seater SUVs – Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Skoda Kushaq and the VW Taigun. Other rivals include three row SUVs such as the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the Hyundai Alcazar.
