After several teasers, Xiaomi has now announced the launch of its second-gen gaming laptop, the Redmi G (2021). The new laptop arrives with a starting price tag that undercuts most of the competition, keeping with Redmi’s penchant for affordability.
The Redmi G (2021) is available in two flavors: a model with a GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card and an Intel Core i5-11260H CPU, and another with an RTX 3060 and AMD Ryzen 7 5800H. Both SKUs are equipped with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Most other specs are the same across the two models as well:
- 16.1-inch, 144 Hz display
- Xiaomi’s XiaoAI assistant
- Backlit keyboards
- DTS X Ultra 3D Sound
- WiFi6 support
There are a few differences, however. The top-spec model with an AMD Ryzen 7 gets better cooling with five copper heat pipes, four air outlets, and dual 12 V fans. It also features a 230 W power adapter versus the Intel model’s 180 W adapter.
The SKU with an RTX 3050 and Core i5-11260H carries an MSRP of CNY 5,699 (US$880) and goes on sale tomorrow. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H model goes on sale on September 28 with a CNY 6,999 (US$1,085) price tag.Â
