Sonakshi Sinha added that Shatrughan Sinha didn’t want her to live in her future husband’s house after marriage.
Last week, news broke out that Sonakshi Sinha is all set to marry her longtime boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal. A leaked wedding invite confirmed the news and revealed that Sonakshi has been dating Zaheer for seven years. Amid the news about the wedding, old interviews of the actress talking about her weddings have resurfaced online; and in 2012, Sonakshi and Poonam Sinha spoke about how Shatrughan Sinha’s concern for Sonakshi.
Sonakshi and her mother, Poonam Sinha, appeared on Simi Grewal’s show, India’s Most Desirable, in 2012. When Simi called Shatrughan a strict and conservative father, Poonam said, “He is as conservative as any father can be, and I would say much more, because coming from the background he comes from, he is extra conservative about her.”
Sonakshi Sinha said, “Every father is concerned when his daughter is concerned.” “He doesn’t want to let me go away to my husband’s house. He wants to bring my husband to our house,” she added. Sonakshi said that her father wanted to “build a house” where she could “bring” her husband.
Meanwhile, Sonakshi and Zaheer are said to tie the knot on June 23. In his first reaction to the wedding rumours, Shatrughan Sinha admitted that he wasn’t aware of the wedding. Later, Pahlaj Nilhani confirmed that the veteran actor was upset with his daughter but it wouldn’t last long.
Speaking with Times Now, Pahlaj said “Ha, but he can’t remain upset for long, not with Sonakshi. She is his laadli. Shaadi nahin attend karne ka koi sawaal hi nahi paida hota. As Shatruji said to you, aaj kal he bachche inform karte hain, permission nahin lete. Why should he be upset if Sonakshi is marrying the boy of her choice? Shatruji himself married a girl of his choice forty years ago. Even I chose my own life partner when I married my wife. One should not have unrealistic expectations from one’s children.”
For the unversed, Shatrughan had told Times Now that he wasn’t aware of Sonakshi’s wedding and added, “I am being asked by people close to me why I am not aware of this (the supposed wedding), and the media is aware of it. All I can say is, aaj kal ke bachche consent nahin lete maa-baap ke, sirf inform karte hain. We are waiting to be informed.”
He later spoke with Times of India and said that while he is not confirming or denying the wedding rumours, he is giving Sonakshi all his blessings for her big day — whenever it comes. “If my daughter is getting married, I will give her my blessings and support her decision and choice. Sonakshi has the right to choose her companion, and I will be the happiest father on her wedding day. I will always wish her the best… ek hi toh beti hai meri,” Shatrughan said.
