She started off in the entertainment industry as a Video Jockey on MTV Pakistan.
Bollywood is one of the largest film producers in the world, in terms of the number of movies it produces every year. The Hindi film industry’s charm transcends the borders of the nation. Many artists from our neighbouring countries also aspire to work in Bollywood. While there are artists like Manisha Koirala, who is of Nepali origin, who made a career in Bollywood, we also have artists from Pakistan who have worked in the Hindi industry. Today, we will talk about one such famous Pakistani actress, who made her Bollywood debut as a leading lady of none other than Shah Rukh Khan himself. What’s inspiring to note is that she used to clean toilets and sweep floors before foraying into acting. We are talking about Mahira Khan. Recently, she was in the news for getting married for the second time.
Mahira was born in Karachi on December 21, 1984 and moved to California at the age of 17 for further studies. She enrolled at Santa Monica College and later University of Southern California. During her stay in the US, she did a number of odd jobs to make ends meet. Mahira Khan had acknowledged while talking to Pakistan’s FUSCHIA magazine earlier, that during her time abroad, she made money by sweeping floors and even cleaning toilets of roadside shops. Later, she took up a position of a cashier at a store in Los Angeles.
She started off in the entertainment industry as a Video Jockey on MTV Pakistan. Soon, she made her debut in films through the Pakistani film Bol. She was able to bag the female lead opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the 2017 film Raees. The hit song O Zaalima was picturised on her. Due to tensions between the two nations during the release of the film because of the 2016 Uri attacks, the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association objected to her inclusion in the film. There were rumours that her portions would be chopped off, but that did not happen ultimately.
