The highly anticipated pan-India multilingual release, Kalki 2898 AD, is generating buzz among the audience. This upcoming epic science fiction dystopian movie is written and directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by C. Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanti Movies. Boasting a star-studded cast, including Prabhas, the film was earlier reported to hit the cinema halls on January 12, 2024. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, the film is going to get a new release date which is likely to be sometime in May.
Vyjayanthi Movies announced the film in February 2020, marking the studio’s 50th anniversary. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, postponed the film’s release. The film’s shoot commenced in July 2021 at a set in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, and is still underway. The film, originally shot in both Telugu and Hindi, will undergo dubbing for release in multiple languages.
Kalki 2898 AD is set to become the most expensive Indian film to date, with a substantial budget of Rs 600 crore (US$75 million). Santosh Narayanan is handling the musical score, Djordje Stojiljkovic is the cinematographer, and Nitin Jihani Choudhary is overseeing the production design. Anticipated to hit theatres in 2024, the film is gaining attention not only for its significant budget but also for its creative team.
Comparing production costs, Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, has been made at a modest budget of Rs 100 crore, whereas Kalki 2898 AD boasts a substantial Rs 600 crore investment. Despite the budget, Animal is earning accolades at the box office and is reportedly accumulating over four times its budget.
Now, it remains to be seen how much business Kalki 2898 AD, which is being made on a budget of Rs 600 crore, does at the box office. Prabhas’ last release, Adipurush, was made with a budget of Rs 500 crore. Despite the big budget, the film flopped due to its storyline and lewd dialogues.
Reports suggest that Prabhas is cast as Lord Kalki in the upcoming film Kalki, with 69-year-old actor Kamal Haasan playing the role of the demon named Kali. The ensemble includes Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. Notably, Saswata Chatterjee and Pasupathy are also set to play significant roles in the movie.
Prabhas is best known for films including Mirchi, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Baahubali: The Beginning. The actor last appeared in Adipurush. Now, he is all set to star in a slew of upcoming films including Salaar, Kannappa, Ravanam, Raja Deluxe, and Spirit to name a few.
