Amitabh Bachchan once shared his reaction after his son Abhishek Bachchan got married to Aishwarya Rai.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the former Miss World and acclaimed actress, widely recognised and admired in the world of cinema has been making headlines since time immemorial. Aishwarya, along with her husband Abhishek Bachchan, forms one of Bollywood’s most beloved and powerful couples. They are also parents to their adorable daughter, Aaradhya, born in 2011. Amid reports alleging that Amitabh Bachchan has unfollowed Aishwarya Rai, let’s look at Big B’s reaction when Aishwarya had tied the knots with Abhishek Bachchan.
In an old interview from Zee’s Starry Nights 2.0 hosted by Komal Nahta, when Amitabh Bachchan was asked about what changed after Aishwarya married Abhishek, the actor answered, “Nothing”. However, Big B then expressed in the context of Shweta Bachchan’s marriage in 1997 to Delhi based businessman Nikhil Nanda, “One daughter left, another daughter came in.”
Meanwhile, Jaya Bachchan had also shared Amitabh Bachchan’s fondness for Aishwarya. She had said this as quoted by Indian Express article, “Amitji, the minute he sees her (Aishwarya), it’s like he’s looking at Shweta coming home. His eyes light up. She’ll fill the vacuum that Shweta left. We have never been able to adjust that Shweta is not in the family, she is out and she is not a Bachchan. It’s tough.”
The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actress had also added,”She is my buddy. If I don’t like something about her, I tell it to her face. I don’t do politics behind her back. If she disagrees with me, she expresses herself. The only difference is that I can be a little more dramatic and she has to be more respectful.”
On the work front, Aishwarya was last seen in the historical action drama Ponniyin Selvan: II. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film was released in April this year and was widely loved by all. Following the release, Abhishek Bachchan also praised his wife and mentioned that both, Jaya and Aishwarya should work more often. “It is always emotional. With my father, I am always able to view his work as an actor. With my mother, I can’t. I am a terrible judge of her work because for me that’s maa. Like for Aishwarya and dad, I can look upon their work,” he told Instant Bollywood.
