The first part was directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and written by Vijay Krishna Acharya. Sanjay directed the second part as well, but the third one was helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. Dhoom 1 was released in 2004, and it starred John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Esha Deol in the lead. This film was a crucial one for Abhishek Bachchan. He delivered a slew of flop films at that time. That’s when Abhishek was offered Dhoom, which proved to be a blockbuster upon its release and grossed Rs 72.5 crore at the box office. This film is said to be Abhishek Bachchan’s first blockbuster hit. The one actor who stole all the limelight in the film though was John Abraham, who appeared in a negative role. His rugged and rough bad guy look impressed the audience.
Two years later, in 2006, Dhoom 2 was released. It retained Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra from the first instalment and made additions like Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to the cast. This film also proved to be a blockbuster, earning Rs 149.89 crore at the box office. Hrithik Roshan created a ruckus at the box office by playing a negative role in this film. His look, performance and on-screen presence — everything impressed the cine-goers and critics alike.
It took another 7 years for the makers to come up with the third part, Dhoom 3. The film emerged as the highest-grossing film of 2013. Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Uday Chopra and Jackie Shroff played the lead roles in this film. Aamir was seen in a never-seen-before negative role in Dhoom 3, which was loved by his fans. This film too proved to be a blockbuster at the box office, earning Rs 589.2 crore worldwide.
