Vrishchika Sankranti denotes the beginning of Karthigai Masal as per the Tamil calendar and Vrishchika Masam as per the Malayalam calendar.

Vrishchika Sankranti is an auspicious day that marks the movement of the Sun from one zodiac sign to another. And now, the Sun will transition from Tula (Libra) to Vrishchik (Scorpio) zodiac sign. As per Indian astrology, on Vishchika Sankranti, the shift of the Sun helps in regaining energy.

This particular Sankranti denotes the beginning of Karthigai Masal as per the Tamil calendar and Vrishchika Masam as per the Malayalam calendar. For Hindus, this day holds a lot of importance and is observed with much devotion. On this special day, bathing in holy rivers and performing charity and tarpan holds significance. By donating during this period, one can get manifold benefits.

As per astrologer Pandit Rishikant Mishra Shastri, from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, this time Vrishchika Sankranti is on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik Month. It will be observed on November 17. Punya Kaal will commence at 06:45 am and will conclude at 12:06 pm. It is considered auspicious to do worship, chant prayers, and make donations during this period. The Maha Punya Kaal is from 06:45 am to 08:32 am. It is believed that during this time, one gets the blessings of the Sun God.

On the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, at 01:18 am, the Sun will move out of Libra and enter Scorpio zodiac sign. It will enter Anuradha Nakshatra on November 20 and Jyestha Nakshatra on December 03. On December 16, the Sun will transit into Sagittarius.

As per the astrologer, worshipping the Sun during Sankranti is beneficial. One should wake up before sunrise and take a bath. Devotees should fill water in a copper vessel mix red sandalwood in it and offer Arghya to the Sun. As per traditions, one also mixes roli, vermillion and turmeric in the water. Devotees should ensure to light a ghee lamp for the Sun with red sandalwood mixed in it. Only red-coloured flowers should be offered in worship. As an offering, devotees can offer halwa made of jaggery. Worshipping the Sun during this time may remove the Surya and Pitra Dosh and attain Surya Loka.

The Sankranti period is considered to be an auspicious time of charity, Shraddha and offering to ancestors. It is believed that those who do not take a holy bath remain sick and poor for seven births. Donating food to cows and clothes is Brahmins and the poor is considered to be auspicious.
