HomeAutoVolkswagen launches the new Taigun compact SUV in India today.

Volkswagen launches the new Taigun compact SUV in India today.

Underpinned by the same platform as Skoda Kushaq, Taigun will be the German automaker's entrant for the compact SUV segment. It will compete against Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, etc.

Volkswagen Taigun SUV, the much-awaited competitor to compact SUVs such as Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, etc. will be launched in India later today. And by launch, we mean we will get to know the remaining details about the upcoming VW SUV, Volkswagen Taigun variants’ list and Volkswagen Taigun price in India.

The rest of it, we have a good idea about because the company revealed the car a while ago. Anyway, as we wait for this upcoming SUV to become available for retail in the country, what do you say we give you an overview of what the Taigun is all about and discuss our expectations for VW Taigun’s price in India, yes? Let us get on with it, then.

Though underpinned by the same platform as Skoda Kushaq, i.e. the MQB A0 IN platform, VW Taigun still manages to carve a unique identity via its design and styling. VW has equipped the SUV with LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED tail lights, etc.

The interior may seem a tad like that of the Kushaq, especially owing to the buttons and such, but we must note that VW Taigun gets a comparatively minimalistic theme for the cabin. The list of Taigun’s features includes automatic climate control, wireless charging, a fully digital instrument console, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, connected car technology, and an electric sunroof among other things.

The upcoming VW SUV in India will come equipped with the same engine options as the Skoda Kushaq, i.e. one 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine and one 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine.

The 1.0-litre motor generates 113 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque and will be offered in combination with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 1.5-litre engine, on the other hand, belts out 148 bhp and 250 Nm of maximum torque. This motor can be paired to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a DSG automatic transmission.

Volkswagen Taigun price in India (expected)

Now, after factoring in all that we know about the upcoming SUV, our guess is that VW Taigun’s price in India will start in the vicinity of ₹10.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
