Vicky Kaushal received a missed call one night from Shah Rukh Khan over reshooting a scene in Dunki. He also talks about how SRK makes him feel he’s doing ‘so little’.
Koffee With Karan Season 8: Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki is perhaps the most highly anticipated film of the year. It marks the superstar’s third release of the year after the record-breaking success of Pathaan and Jawan, and is his first collaboration with ace filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. Needless to say, the excitement and expectations surrounding the film is sky high. Dunki will also see Shah Rukh sharing screen space with Vicky Kaushal for the first time. The actor, who earlier with the director on Sanju, has a special appearance in Dunki and plays Shah Rukh’s friend in the film.
While Vicky has remained tight-lipped about working in Dunki all this while, he opened up on his experience of working with SRK for the first time in the recent episode of Koffee With Karan, where he appeared along with Kiara Advani.
Still overwhelmed for receiving the golden opportunity of acting alongside the superstar, Vicky said, “Shah Rukh sir told me that Dunki is my best work till date. It was incredible to just meet him and then to share screen with him and work with him. There was so much to learn from him. I knew that there was a lot to learn from him as an actor but what hit me was I actually got to know why he is where he is and why he is the Badshah. He was on set as if it was his first film. I got to work with him for a few days as I had a special appearance but that role, that experience and being directed by Raju sir was magical and surreal for me.”
What particularly left Vicky mesmerised was the fact that Shah Rukh knew the entire script by heart including his other co-actors’ lines. Sharing an anecdote from the sets of Dunki, the Sam Bahadur actor stated, “In one of the shoot days, he had to rush to Delhi for a very important work and it couldn’t have happened at another time and another date. It was a very critical moment for my character in the film and it was with him. He just couldn’t be there for that shot and I had to give that shot with a body double. He got done with his work in Delhi and then he called me late in the night which I missed because there was an event.”
He further continued, “He then sent me a long message saying, ‘Vicky, who shot hum dobaara karenge. I’m really sorry that I couldn’t be there to give the cues.’ I had to call him and convince him that it went okay and Raju sir is happy with the shot. I was also nervous if I could pull off that shot again. But he insisted we do it because he was feeling terrible about not being able to give his shoulder in the shot. The next day he came on set and saw those shots and only after he was happy with them did he decide that we don’t need to reshoot them.”
While this left Vicky inspired, he also revealed that he worries about not being able to match up to Shah Rukh’s calibre. “When I meet him, I realise how little I’m doing at this age. He’s just gives his hundred percent. If he’s talking to you, hundred percent of his being is talking to you. He’s just something else,” he said.
