TVS X price vs Ola S1 Pro vs Ather 450X vs Simple One: range, battery, features, storage compared

We stack up India’s most expensive e-scooter against its rivals on paper.

The newly launched TVS X is one of the most radical-looking e-scooters out there and here we’ve compared it to its closest rivals on paper.

TVS X vs rivals: electric motor, battery and charging

Electric motor, battery & charging
TVS X Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 Ather 450X Simple One
Peak motor output 11kW 11kW 6.4kW 8.5kW
Continuous motor output 7kW 5kW 3.3kW 4.5kW
Rated torque 40Nm NA 26Nm 72Nm
Claimed top speed 105kph 120kph 90kph 105kph
Battery capacity 4.4kWh 4kWh 3.7kWh 5kWh
Claimed IDC range 140km 195km 150km 212km (with 6% SOC left)
Charging time 0 – 80% in 4hr30min 0 – 100% in 6hr30min 0 – 100% in 5hr45min 0 – 80% in 5hr54min

Despite having the second largest battery here, the TVS X has the least (claimed) range here. This is likely due to the fact that its motor makes the highest continuous power output and a healthy 40Nm torque figure as well. Claimed top speed isn’t the highest here, that crown goes to the Ola S1 Pro. We’ve asked Ola about the torque figure for the Gen 2 S1 Pro but the company hasn’t shared that number with us yet.

Charging times are the quickest for the X as it gets the most powerful portable charger amongst this lot, although it isn’t included in the price, and will set you back by an additional Rs 16,275 (including GST). Hooked up to its 3kW fast charger, the X needs just 50 minutes to get to 50 percent SOC.

TVS X vs rivals: dimensions, underpinnings

Dimensions & underpinnings
TVS X Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 Ather 450X Simple One

Storage 19 litres 34 litres 22 litres 30 litres

At 134kg, the X is the heaviest e-scooter here (tied with the Simple One), but has the shortest wheelbase and also features a sporty aluminium twin-spar frame. In theory, this should make it quite a sporty handling machine, but we’ll reserve judgement until we get a chance to ride it. At 770mm, it has the lowest seat height and is also the only one here to get a split-seat setup. And with 175mm of ground clearance, it should also be able to tackle the worst of our roads without too much trouble. However, at 19 litres, its underseat storage area is the smallest one here and since it doesn’t have a floorboard, due to its unique twin-spar frame, luggage carrying capacity is quite restricted.

TVS X vs rivals: features

For the tech-savvy among us, the crowning highlight of the X will likely be its huge 10.25-inch touchscreen colour TFT dash. Not only does this dash get the now increasingly common Bluetooth compatibility enabling music playback and navigation alerts, but you can also play games or watch videos on it while stopped. How this feature will impact the rider’s concentration in the chaotic Indian road conditions remains to be seen.

The X also gets reverse assist and hill-hold, but what’s pleasing to see is the presence of single-channel ABS here. This makes it the only e-scooter to offer it in India currently. The X’s motor is also the only one to feature RAM air-cooling and it gets three riding modes – Xtealth, Xtride and Xonic.

TVS X vs rivals: price

Price
TVS X Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 Ather 450X Simple One
Price (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, including portable charger and FAME-II subsidy) Rs 2.50 lakh (Charger not included and doesn’t qualify for FAME-II subsidy) Rs 1.47 lakh Rs 1.68 lakh Rs 1.45 lakh – Rs 1.50 lakh

At Rs 2.50 lakh, the TVS X is undoubtedly a very pricey proposition and costs around a lakh more than the Ola S1 Pro and the Simple One. This price doesn’t include the 950W charger, which is an additional Rs Rs 16,275 (including GST), while prices for the 3kW fast-charger are yet to be revealed. How many people pony up the steep asking price for the feature-rich X is something that remains to be seen.
