The Jupiter continues to be TVS Motor Co’s best-selling scooter as well as best-selling product in the company’s entire two-wheeler portfolio. FY2024 was the Jupiter range’s best fiscal year performance – at 8,44,863 units, going ahead of the previous best of 8,10,916 units in FY2018. It was TVS Motor Co’s best-selling two-wheeler last fiscal, ahead of the Raider 125 (4,78,443 units), XL100 moped (4,81,803 units), Apache range (3,78,112 units) and the Ntorq 125 (3,31,865 units).

RIDING TOWARDS THE SEVEN MILLION MILESTONE

The TVS Jupiter is a close rival to India’s best-selling scooter, the Honda Activa, has surpassed the 30 million unit sales milestone in June 2023 and sold 2.25 million units in FY2024.

In less than two years after launch, in 2015, the scooter crossed the 5 lakh unit sales mark and then in 2016, it crossed the 1 million sales milestone. Shortly after, in 2017, the 2 million sales mark was surpassed. The four-million milestone came up early in FY2021 and five million in 2022. In celebration of the five-million sales milestone, TVS launched the Jupiter 110 Classic. More recently, the six-million sales milestone came up in October 2023.

JUPITER POWERS TVS’ MARKET SHARE TO 25 PERCENT

Since its launch 11 years ago, the Jupiter has helped give TVS a strong position in India’s scooter market. Within a year of its launch, TVS’ scooter market share grew from 12.68 percent to 15.19 percent in FY2015 and 16.36 percent in FY2018. This is when the sporty TVS Ntorq 125 was introduced in India. Since then, the Jupiter-NTorq duo has accelerated TVS’ scooter market share to 25 percent, which is next only to market leader Honda’s 43 percent in FY2024.

Proof of the Jupiter powering TVS’s scooter sales can be amply seen in the company’s sales numbers. Of the company’s cumulative sales of 10.8 million scooters from FY2014 till end-July 2024, the Jupiter accounts for 6.73 million units, which makes for a strong 62 percent contribution. In the ongoing fiscal’s April-July 2024 period, TVS with 5,19,532 units has a scooter market share of 23.41 percent of which the Jupiter has the giant’s share.
