TVS, BMW Motorrad look to expand manufacturing network beyond India

TVS Motors, which is celebrating 10 years of its association with BMW Motorrad, is in discussion with the German auto major to expand its manufacturing network beyond India.

K N Radhakrishnan, director & CEO, TVS Motor Company says, “We are in discussions to expand our manufacturing network beyond India to cater to our future growth under this partnership, which includes the recently unveiled BMW CE 02. We look forward to working closely on developing platforms targeted towards the global urban-centric markets and the “uber-cool” next generation of consumers.”

TVS-BMW success story

TVS’ Hosur manufacturing plant produces around 10 percent of BMW’s volumes globally. The BMW Motorrad models – BMW G 310 R, BMW 310 GS and BMW G310 RR are now available in over 100 countries. In 2022, BMW Motorrad achieved the best sales result in the company’s history with 2,02,895 motorcycles and scooters sold.

The success of this cooperation has helped extend and expand the partnership between the two companies. In line with this, TVS and BMW are jointly developing new platforms and future technologies, including electric vehicles. Furthermore, TVS’ scope includes the design and development of future BMW products.

Markus Schramm, head of BMW Motorrad, said this 10th anniversary is an “impressive proof” of the success and strength of the collaboration between BMW and TVS. He added that the development of bikes in the sub-500cc segment, and the launch of BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS single-cylinder models have become a key pillar of BMW’s worldwide success.

TVS has sent out an invite for a new vehicle launch on September 6, and it is quite likely to be the naked RR 310. The naked TVS Apache RR 310 has been spied testing a couple of times now on the rare occasion that a TVS vehicle is spied testing, it usually happens soon before the launch. TVS did recently trademark the name Apache RTX and that might be used on this upcoming bike.
