Triumph Speed 400 price in India, booking amount increased to Rs 10,000

The introductory price of Rs 2.23 lakh for the first 10,000 bookings was extinguished in a matter of days.

The booking amount for the recently launched Triumph Speed 400 has been raised to Rs 10,000 from the earlier Rs 2,000 figure. Launched on July 5th, the Speed 400 is priced at a very tempting Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom, India), with an introductory price of Rs 2.23 lakh being offered on the first 10,000 bookings. That quota was extinguished in a matter of days, meaning that the introductory price is no longer applicable.

Triumph’s website confirms that it has received over 10,000 bookings for the Speed, and with the rate at which that happened, it’s likely to have crossed the 15,000 mark by now as well. Of course, bookings and deliveries are two very different things, but this marks a strong start for the Speed 400 in its rivalry against the likes of the Harley-Davidson X440 and Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Hunter 350.

However, these booking figures are a bit of a double-edged sword for Triumph. Only recently, Bajaj took over the British brand’s sales and service operations in India, and this Speed 400 marks an entry into completely uncharted territory for Triumph. It has never dealt in this sort of volume before, and Bajaj and Triumph are hard at work laying the foundation to make it possible. The sales and service network will grow dramatically from 15 locations right now to 120 planned nationwide by the end of the financial year.

And then there’s also the matter of production. The Triumph Speed 400 is being produced at Bajaj’s new Chakan 2 plant, alongside KTM motorcycles. The majority of the plant’s capacity has been allotted to the Austrian brand at the moment, with Triumph’s capacity share being roughly 5,000 motorcycles.

With all this considered, the increase in booking amount for the Speed 400 begins to make some sense. It is in the company’s best interest to whittle down the pool to serious buyers, and the raised booking amount should help it achieve that to some extent.
