Triumph Scrambler 400 X price, features, India launch details

Scrambler 400 X is based on the same engine-chassis platform as Speed 400.

The Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X were unveiled a few months ago and following the successful launch of the former, the British marque is now gearing up to launch the latter. We have received an invite to ride the bike in the second week of October, which means an Indian launch will be held around that time.

  1. Gets 19/17-inch cast alloy wheels, dual purpose tyres
  2. Longer travel suspension than Speed 400
  3. Same engine and electronics on offer

Just like the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400 X will be built right here in India at Bajaj’s Chakan-2 plant for both domestic sales and export purposes. The engine here is the same liquid-cooled, 398cc, single-cylinder mill that makes 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm and its mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch.

The Scrambler 400 X’s main frame is the same but the cycle parts have been changed here. The biggest difference is the 19-inch front wheel and the Scrambler has 150mm of wheel travel at both ends which is 20mm and 10mm more, respectively than the Speed.

The front brake disc is a larger 320mm unit here as opposed to the Speed 400’s 300mm unit, and while the rear is the same at 230mm, ABS can be turned off on the Scrambler. The feature-set here remains the same as the Speed 400, which means you get the same digi-analogue display as the roadster as well as a basic traction control system.

Styling is another area where the Scrambler 400 X has a few differences such as the headlight grille, a rounded side panel and split seats for both the rider and pillion.

When the Scrambler 400 X does go on sale, expect it to cost between Rs 2.60 lakh – Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The closest rival in terms of styling and intent is the Yezdi Roadster (Rs 2.10 lakh – Rs 2.12 lakh), although in terms of capability the Triumph Scrambler 400 X is definitely closer to the likes of the BMW G 310 GS (Rs 3.25 lakh) and the KTM 390 Adventure X (Rs 2.81 lakh). Deliveries of the Scrambler 400 X will begin in November.

All prices ex-showroom, India.
