Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder interior details revealed; launch by August

Ahead of its July 1 debut, we get a glimpse of the Hyryder’s infotainment screen, connected car tech, along with some other interior bits.

Ahead of its global debut on July 1, Toyota India has given us a glimpse of the upcoming Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV’s interior, including some features and its dashboard layout. Toyota’s Creta rival will go on sale by August this year, and its Maruti sibling will see a launch soon after.

  • Toyota Hyryder to get a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment
  • Will have Maruti-sourced interior bits
  • Higher variants to get leather-finished dashboard

As we’ve reported earlier, while the Hyryder will be built by at Toyota’s Bidadi facility in Karnataka, the SUV will be based on a Suzuki platform and will feature a majority of Suzuki-sourced components. Previous spy shots have revealed that along with the platform and powertrain, the Hyryder is expected to share a few other items with its Maruti sibling.

Toyota Hyryder SUV: interior partially revealed

The new teasers partially reveal the Hyryder’s dashboard design, which mimics the layout of newer Maruti models like the Baleno – and the Glanza – and the upcoming Brezza that launches this Thursday.

Common bits shared with Maruti Suzuki include AC controls, AC vents, and even the touchscreen infotainment system looks similar to the 9-inch unit seen on the Baleno and the Glanza. The teaser also confirms that the Hyryder will get connected car tech that will enable the user to operate basic functions of the car like switching the AC on or off via the app, among others.

The instrument cluster is not seen, but we expect the higher variants to be equipped with an upgraded multi-info display that gives details about the strong hybrid system’s real time status, along with fuel consumption data, among other things. The steering wheel is also expected to be sourced from Maruti and will most likely be the same unit that sees duty on the Baleno, Glanza and a few other offerings.

However, what seems unique from the teaser is the more premium-looking interior, with subtle doses of chrome and a soft-touch leather/leatherette finish on the dashboard, currently not seen on any made-in-India Maruti product.

Expect higher variants of both SUVs to get leather seats, sunroof, heads up display, cruise control, and multiple airbags, among other bits.

Toyota Hyryder SUV: powertrain details

As far as engine and powertrain details go, both SUVs will come with a Maruti-sourced 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine mated to either a Maruti-sourced mild-hybrid system for lower variants, whereas higher trims will come with a Toyota-sourced strong hybrid mated to the same engine.

Bookings for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder is expected to begin sometime next month, and the market launch will take place by August this year. Maruti’s version of the Toyota Hyryder is likely to debut in July. Read more on that here.
