Toyota plans to launch 4 new cars in next year.

Japanese automaker, Toyota has announced its absolute first misfortune in Quite a while in five years. 1. TOYOTA RUMION


Toyota is already selling the Glanza hatchback and the Urban Cruiser based on the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza in our market. The next re-badged model will be the Toyota Rumion MPV, which is based on the Ertiga MPV. In fact, the Toyota Rumion name has already been trademarked in India. The MPV has recently been launched in South Africa.

The new Toyota Rumion MPV has received some changes to differentiate itself from the Maruti Ertiga. It gets a different grille with a Toyota badge. Inside the cabin, the new Rumion gets black interiors with wooden trim.

Powering the MPV is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 105bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.

2. TOYOTA BELTA

The Toyota Belta mid-sized sedan based on the Ciaz will join the Rumion MPV in our market. MSIL has already started producing the new sedan, which will initially to be exported in select international markets.

The Toyota Belta mid-sized sedan will be positioned against the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento. It will replace the Yaris sedan, which was discontinued earlier this year.

The Toyota Belta will be powered by the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 104bhp of maximum power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.

3. TOYOTA INNOVA CRYSTA CNG

The company is currently testing the CNG version of the popular Innova Crysta MPV. It is expected to be launched in the end of 2021 or early next year. The new model is expected to be based on the entry-level G trim and is likely to cost around Rs 80K to 1 lakh premium over the petrol variant.

The CNG version is likely to receive a 2.7L, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired to a CNG kit. The gasoline engine churns out 166PS of power and 245Nm of torque. The CNG kit will offer slightly lower power and torque than the gasoline model. It is likely to be offered in manual gearbox version only.

4. NEW MID-SIZED SUV

Toyota and Suzuki JV is working on a new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. The new mid-sized SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor.

To be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant, the new model is expected to be launched in the second half of 2022.

The new mid-sized SUV is most likely to be based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform that underpins the Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky.

It’s claimed to support electric powertrain, autonomous driving technology and advanced connectivity features. The SUV could get a 1.5L NA petrol engine producing 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. The company could also fit Suzuki’s 1.4L Boosterjet engine that powers the global-spec Swift Sport.
