Toyota Innova Hycross prices
Variants Price

Hybrid VX 8-seater Rs 24.06 lakh

The top-end variant of the Hycross is about Rs 2 lakh more expensive than the Innova Crysta diesel, which has temporarily gone off sale. However, it must be noted that Toyota is currently not accepting bookings for the latter.

Toyota Innova Hycross gets SUV-inspired design

For the new Innova, Toyota has adopted a more SUV-like appearance with a large, upright grille, a high bonnet line and body cladding all round. The hexagonal grille gets gunmetal finish and chrome surrounds down below. It also gets big, stretched out headlamps, which resemble the ones in the Fortuner. The bumpers feature matte silver inserts and massive horizontal Daytime Running Lamps that double up as turn indicators.

While the front looks like an SUV, the profile features a distinct MPV silhouette, with a strong shoulder line and flared wheel arches. From the side, it looks similar to the Veloz MPV sold by Toyota in international markets. Like the Crysta, the Hycross too gets a large glasshouse, promising good visibility for all three rows. It sits on 18-inch, ten-spoke alloys that’s overshadowed by the large, squarish wheel arches. At the rear, it gets a roof-mounted spoiler, chunky LED tail-lights, scooped-out number plate housing and blacked-out rear bumper.

Speaking of dimensions, while the height and the ground clearance are the same as the Crysta, the Hycross is 20mm longer and 20mm wider, and has a 100mm more wheelbase than the Crysta.

Toyota Innova Hycross: interior design

On the inside, the Hycross marks a complete departure from the Crysta. It features a multi-layered dashboard with horizontal lines, and certain elements like the semi-digital instrument cluster available on the hybrid trims are similar to the Voxy MPV. What stands out in the Hycross’ cabin is the large 10.1-inch floating touchscreen which flows down to the rectangular AC vents and stack of HVAC controls.

The dashboard features soft-touch leather and metallic decorations. Also, the Hycross gets a dashboard mounted gear lever console. The higher variants of the MPV get dual-tone brown and black interior theme with Dark Chestnut leather seat upholstery. Lower variants, on the other hand, get black fabric upholstery.

Toyota Innova Hycross: variants and equipment list

Toyota is offering the Hycross with a total of five variants – G, GX, VX, ZX and ZX(O). The top variants goodies like paddle shifters, ventilated front seats, memory function for the driver’s seat, ambient lighting and powered tailgate. Toyota is also offering a panoramic sunroof – first for an Innova.

The new Innova Hycross debuts the Toyota Safety Sense suite of ADAS tech in India with features like lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and a pre-collision system. In terms of other safety features, the Hycross comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, Traction Control and ESP. Lower variants of the MPV get dual airbags as standard while higher variants get six.

When it comes to seating configurations, the Innova Hycross gets 7- and 8-seat layouts. The 7-seat configuration gets two captain’s chairs equipped with a first-in-segment ottoman function for the middle row, and a bench seat for the third row. The 8-seat layout, on the other hand, gets bench seats for both second and third rows. Toyota is providing three-point seatbelts for all passengers.

Toyota Innova Hycross: platform, powertrain and fuel economy

Unlike all the previous iterations of the Innova, which were underpinned by a ladder-frame construction, the new Hycross uses a monocoque chassis and is based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform.

The Innova Hycross gets petrol and strong-hybrid powertrain options but no diesel. The strong-hybrid powertrain is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit coupled with Toyota’s fifth-gen strong hybrid tech (M20A-FXS). This engine, like most Toyota hybrid units, uses an Atkinson or Miller cycle to aid fuel efficiency. The Hybrid powertrain produces a combined output of 186hp and the powertrain comes mated to an e-Drive transmission.

The non-hybrid version of the same 1,987cc engine is also available and it makes 172hp and 205Nm, and is paired to a CVT gearbox. Both configurations of the Innova Hycross are front-wheel drive only. It, however, does not get a manual transmission option.

It must also be noted that only the base G and GX trims can be had with the non-hybrid powertrain. The higher VX, ZX and ZX (O) trims are exclusively available with strong hybrid powertrain.

With the hybrid, Toyota claims a fuel efficiency figure of 23.24kpl, while the naturally aspirated version gets a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 16.13kpl.
