Innova Hycross will be an all-new MPV; will be sold alongside Innova Crysta.
Toyota will take the wraps off the much-awaited Innova Hycross sometime in November 2022, just after Diwali, as we’ve reported before. Sources tell us that this all-new MPV will most likely go on sale by January 2023 and will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta.
- Innova Hycross’s price announcement likely in January
- Will come with petrol-mild hybrid powertrain
The Innova Hycross will be Toyota’s second big unveiling for India this year, following the launch of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV sometime next month. The Innova Hycross will be a global model to be sold in markets like Indonesia, and will most likely be called the “Innova Zenix” overseas.
Toyota Innova Hycross: new platform and powertrain
The new Innova Hycross will be the first Innova to ditch the ladder-frame architecture for a much lighter and advanced monocoque set-up. It will also feature front-wheel drive set-up instead of rear-wheel drive that is seen in Innova Crysta and the version before that. The Innova Hycross will be underpinned by Toyota’s modular TNGA-C platform that also forms base for the current-gen Corolla.
As far as styling goes, test mules of the new Innova Hycross seen so far have revealed typical MPV styling and fresh design details like on newer Toyota models such as the Corolla Cross SUV seen overseas.
The new Innova will be around 4.7 metres long and will have a 2,850mm wheelbase, which is slightly longer than the Innova Crysta. It will continue to feature multiple seating layout and a spacious cabin which has been a key selling point for the MPV.
Toyota Innova Hycross: only petrol-hybrid, no diesel on offer
As we’ve reported before, the Toyota Innova Hycross will ditch the diesel engine and will come only with a petrol-hybrid configuration, similar to the Toyota Hyryder. But the engine that will see duty on the Innova Hycross will be a bigger 2.0-litre unit instead of the 1.5-litre engine seen on the Hyryder. Both models will feature a heavily localised version of the new Toyota Hybrid system which will help keep costs in check.
Expect more details on the new Innova Hycross to trickle down closer to its global debut.
