Toyota has started working on the CNG version of its entry-level model – the Glanza. The premium hatchback which takes on the likes of the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz would be the only car in its segment to get a factory-fitted CNG option. Barring the base E, the CNG option would be available in all the variants of the Glanza.Â
Toyota Glanza: CNG powertrain, variant and equipment detailsÂ
The Glanza CNG will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre engine, however, the power output will see a dip from around 90hp to about 77hp for the CNG. As is the case with most CNG models, the Glanza CNG would be available only with the manual transmission, and not the AMT.Â
Out of the four trims available on the Glanza, Toyota will be offering the CNG in the G, S and V trim levels. On the top-spec V trim, the Toyota hatchback gets equipment like a heads-up display, a 9.0-inch touchscreen, connected car tech, and six airbags.Â
As is the case with most CNG models, the Glanza CNG will be pricier than its petrol-only counterpart. Expect Toyota to charge a premium of about Rs 1 lakh for the CNG-powered version.Â
Toyota Glanza CNG: rivalsÂ
Currently, no premium hatchback comes with an option of a CNG. However, with Toyota working on the Glanza CNG, it is likely that its twin, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno will also come with an option of a CNG. Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki had said that it is looking to offer CNG in their Nexa line-up of cars, and the Baleno is likely to be one of the first cars from Nexa to get it.Â
