Raj Kapoor was known as the ‘’Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema’ due to his immense contributions to the industry during his illustrious career. Hailing from the Kapoor family, the actor proved his mettle as a director at the age of just 24. Raj Kapoor stepped into the industry as a child artist in 1935 with the movie Inquilab by Debaki Bose. Later, he turned into a clapper boy in the famous Bombay Talkies during the late 30s. Finally, he earned his big break with Kidar Sharma in the 1947 black-and-white movie Neel Kamal opposite Madhubala. Quickly, he rose to fame and became a part of the holy trinity — Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand, which created a new wave of romantic genre in the Hindi Cinema.

Soon after, he marked his debut as a director with the movie Aag, which was released on August 6, 1948. He was just 24 at that time. The movie featured Raj Kapoor, Nargis, Premnath and Kamini Kaushal in the lead roles. This was the first time that the actor worked with Nargis. Their on-screen chemistry in the movie became the buzz of the town and the audience loved the movie.

While Aag did average business, Raj Kapoor soon after worked with Nargis once again in the movie Barsaat (1949) and it turned out to be a success at the box office. The movie was the highest-grossing film of Indian cinema and at that time, it did a business of Rs 2 crore. Reportedly, it was on the sets of Barsaat, when they allegedly fell in love with each other. In fact, as per rumours, the logo of RK Studio was also inspired by a scene in the movie where Raj Kapoor can be seen holding Nargis. At that time, Raj Kapoor was already married and had three children.

In his illustrious career, Raj Kapoor has delivered exceptional performances as an actor in movies like Awaara (1951) and Shree 420 (1955), for which he received recognition and accolades as well. He is also known for his movies like Mera Naam Joker, Sangam, Prem Rog and Ram Teri Ganga Maili.
