South actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, known for her significant presence in the Telugu and Tamil film industries for many years, celebrated turning 36 in April. Recently, she impressed her fans with her remarkable performance in Kushi.
In a recent revelation, Samantha disclosed who was her favourite actor in the Telugu film industry before she herself became an actress. She stated in an interview that Pawan Kalyan was her favourite hero. Both of them shared screens in Attarintiki Daredi under Trivikram’s direction. Coming to the Tamil film industry, she shared that Suriya was her favourite hero. They acted together twice in the films like Anjaan and 24.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, considered among the highest-paid actresses in South India, began her acting journey with the romantic Telugu film Ye Maaya Chesave in 2010. She has received numerous awards and holds the distinction of winning the Filmfare Best Actor Award for both Tamil and Telugu films.
Last year, Samantha took a break from her work due to a rare autoimmune disease diagnosis. The diagnosis came while she was filming her Telugu movie Kushi, leading her to take an extended break lasting several months before making her return to the sets only recently.
During Shaakuntalam’s promotions, Samantha shared her battle with the autoimmune condition myositis. She candidly discussed how the disease had a significant impact on her appearance during her diagnosis, revealing that there were days when she experienced sensations like pins and needles in her eyes upon waking up.
Following Kushi, Samantha is set to appear in the Citadel web series, which is directed by Raj and DK. Notably, the shooting for this web series, featuring Hindi actor Varun Dhawan has already been completed.
Samantha was born on April 28, 1987, to Joseph Prabhu and Ninette Prabhu. She comes from a Christian family and was raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Samantha is the youngest of her siblings, with two elder brothers named Jonath and David. She pursued her schooling at Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai and later obtained a degree in commerce from Stella Maris College, Chennai.
Towards the conclusion of her undergraduate degree, Samantha ventured into modelling and collaborated with Naidu Hall. It was during this period that filmmaker Ravi Varman first noticed her, marking the beginning of her journey in the film industry.
Samantha made her television debut in 2020 by hosting a special episode of the Telugu-language reality television series Bigg Boss 4. Her performance in the series received acclaim. Additionally, in the same year, she hosted a talk show called Sam Jam, which was available for streaming on Aha.
