These are govt-approved tools you can use to remove malware from phone and computer

Called Cyber Swachhta Kendra, it is a botnet cleaning and malware analysis centre. It offers free tools to remove malware from your computer and mobile phones. 

To inform citizens about the tools, the government is reaching out to citizens via text message that reads “Stay Cyber Safe! To protect your device from botnet infections and malware, the Government of India, through CERT-In, recommends downloading the ‘Free Bot Removal Tool’ at csk.gov.in.”

Other relevant tools available on the website are:

1. USB Pratirodh

This tool is a desktop security solution, which controls the usage of removable storage media like pen drives, external hard drives, cell phones, and other supported USB mass storage devices.

2. AppSamvid

This tool AppSamvid is a desktop based Application Whitelisting solution for Windows operating system. It allows only pre-approved set of executable files for execution.

3. Browser JSGuard

This tool is a browser extension which detects and defends malicious HTML & JavaScript attacks made through the web browser based on Heuristics. It alerts the user on visiting any malicious web pages and provides the detailed analysis threat report of the web page.

What is Cyber Swachhta Kendra?

Cyber Swachhta Kendra is a part of the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). It has been set up for analyzing BOTs/malware characteristics and providing information and enabling citizens for removal of BOTs/malware. In addition, Cyber Swachhta Kendra strives to create awareness among citizens to secure their data, computers, mobile phones and devices such as home routers.
