Nia DaCosta, director of The Marvels stands by her opinion that Captain America is to blame for the destruction that happened in Infinity War. She praises the character’s authenticity in the film.

The Marvels is all set to grace the silver screen. Excited fans as well as the makers can’t help but recall all that has happened in the MCU so far so that they have an easy time connecting the dots. Hopping on the opportunity, Nia DaCosta, the director of the much-awaited film, expressed her unique perspective on the Marvel universe. About two years ago, in 2021, she had reportedly suggested that Captain America bears some responsibility for the events that happened in the Avengers: Infinity War. This viewpoint has been contemplated by numerous fans as well.

She had argued that the catastrophic Thanos’s snap, which erased half of the world, could be attributed to his unwavering commitment to doing what he saw as the right thing, rather than sacrificing vision to prevent widespread suffering, reported ComicBook.

DaCosta recently elaborated her viewpoint on the portal, emphasising that Captain America’s refusal to make a painful sacrifice is both the cause of the crisis and what makes him an exceptional character.

She explained, “The reason why it’s his fault is the reason why he’s such an amazing hero because he’s like, ‘we’re not gonna sacrifice anyone. Like, there always has to be another way.” She continued, “he was incorrect, but he was also right in the end because everything was fine. We did lose some people that we care about. But it is his fault because he should have just ripped that thing out of his homie’s head from the beginning.”

However, she went on to explain that it is precisely what contributes to his greatness as a character.

She said that the success of the early MCU can be attributed to the authenticity of these characters. They remained true to themselves and their decisions, even if not universally agreeable, were consistent with their characters.

“So even though I blame him, I understand,” she added.

DaCosta also addressed recent rumours and theories related to the X-Men’s introduction to the MCU. As The Marvels takes its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has been considerable speculation about the possibility of mutants appearing in the film. While DaCosta did not provide any spoilers, she did express her personal interest in seeing Scott Summers and Storm together on screen, reflecting their dynamic from the Chris Claremont comic run. She even suggested the idea of a Cyclops and Storm team-up movie.

The Marvels, which is set to hit theaters on November 10, continues the story of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, who has broken free from the tyrannical Kree and confronted the Supreme Intelligence. However, her actions have unintended consequences, leading to the destabilisation of the universe.

Carol’s journey becomes intertwined with Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, and her estranged niece, Captain Monica Rambeau, an astronaut from S.A.B.E.R. The trio must work together to save the universe.
