Tech Mahindra launches TechMVerse to drive commerce in the Metaverse

Pune: IT services firm Tech Mahindra announced the launch of TechMVerse, its Metaverse practice on Monday, which will allow its customers to create immersive experiences and transact in the Metaverse. The company would build on its 5G and infrastructure capabilities to build this platform, in partnership with hyper-scalers and starutps.

“We are launching this on our own, but will have use cases for platforms that have been launched by hyperscalers. We are enabling meta commerce and 5G will enable us to deliver this,” CP Gurnani, CEO, Tech Mahindra told ET.

In the initial phase, the company will work on various use cases like DealerVerse – metaverse-based car dealership, Middlemist – NFT marketplace, Meta Bank – a virtual bank, and gaming center. It will offer immersive digital and professional experience services around design, content, as well as low code plug and play Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) and Blockchain platforms.

“There are seven layers to a good Metaverse implementation, the bottommost layer is infrastructure and the topmost is human experience management, where we have leading capabilities,” said Gurnani, adding that the company would play a role across all seven layers, including devices and machines, IoT, spatial computing, web 3.0.

Tech Mahindra has also collaborated with Mahindra & Mahindra to launch a series of digital collectibles which will be available for sale through Tech Mahindra’s NFT Marketplace platform, it said.

Apart from TechM, Indian IT leaders like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Wipro, Persistent Systems and Mphasis have also big plans in this area, ET reported last month.

Last week Infosys had launched a Metaverse Foundry to fast-track enterprises’ exploration of the Metaverse, including virtual and augmented environments for their customers, workplace, products and operations. It said that while the virtual reality Metaverse is largely linked to gaming and entertainment due to investments by Microsoft and Meta (previously Facebook), it could also play a huge role in areas such as education, pharma and automotive.

For Tech Mahindra, most of the work on the Metaverse is currently being done through four of its labs in Hyderabad, Pune, London and Dallas. The company currently has about 100 employees working on this and intends to train upto 1000 engineers within the first year.
