Tata Safari SUV XMS, XMAS variants prices starting at Rs 17.97 lakh; gets panoramic sunroof and more



Based on the mid-range XM and XMA variants, the Safari XMS and XMAS get new features from higher variants.


Tata has launched two new variants for its flagship Safari SUV, XMS and XMAS, which are based on the existing XM and XMA variants. The carmaker has priced these new variants at Rs 17.97 lakh and 19.27 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the manual and automatic versions. Both the XMS and XMAS variants of the Safari are Rs 1.17 lakh more expensive than the XM and XMA variants, respectively, thanks to the inclusion of new features.

Earlier this month, Tata Motors had also launched the XMS and XMAS variants of the Harrier SUV.

Tata Safari XMS, XMAS: new features

For the new Safari variants, Tata is now offering a panoramic sunroof as standard, which was previously available on the XT+, XTA+, XZ+, and XZA+ variants. In addition to the features available on the XM and XMA variants, the XMS and XMAS get automatic headlamps, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, an 8-speaker system, rain-sensing wipers, electrically foldable outside rearview mirrors (ORVM) and a reverse parking camera.

Tata Safari XMS, XMAS: powertrain

Tata has made no mechanical changes to the new variants of the Safari. They are both powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 170hp and 350Nm of torque. While the XMS variant gets a 6-speed manual gearbox, the XMAS variant gets a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Tata Motors’ upcoming plans

After the Punch Camo Edition’s market debut, Tata is now gearing up to launch the Tiago EV on September 28. At the 62nd annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) in Delhi, Shailesh Chandra, MD, passenger vehicles and electric mobility, Tata Motors, said that he anticipates the sales of all EVs in their portfolio – including the Nexon EV and Tigor EV –  to reach 50,000 units this year.
