CNG will be the fourth fuel option on Nexon after petrol, diesel and EV.
Tata Motors will add a CNG powertrain to its popular Nexon compact SUV within this finalcial year, the compnay has confirmed. The upcoming Nexon CNG was showcased in close to production guise (as the Nexon iCNG concept) at the Bharat Mobility show earlier this year.
- Nexon will be India’s first turbocharged CNG vehicleÂ
- Will be squarely aimed at the Maruti Brezza CNGÂ
The Nexon CNG will be identical to the standard SUV in terms of its exterior and interior design, as well as the equipment list. There could, however, be a few CNG-related mechanical upgrades to the suspension and a couple of iCNG badges to mark it out from the rest of the range.
The CNG-powered Nexon will continue with the same 1.2-litre, turbocharged 3-cylinder engine from the petrol variants, which means it will be the first-ever CNG vehicle with a turbocharged engine in India. Tata Motors recently introduced AMT variants of the Tiago and Tigor CNG, so It remains to be seen if the upcoming Nexon CNG also gets an AMT-gearbox option.Â
Once launched, the Nexon will be the only vehicle in India to offer this extensive a list of powertrain options that includes petrol, diesel, and CNG with multiple gearbox options, as well as an all-electric version. The Nexon CNG will take on the Brezza CNG squarely in the Indian market.Â
Apart from the Nexon CNG, Tata Motors will also introduce the Curvv in both electric and ICE iteration along with the Tata Harrier EV in this financial year.
