Tata Nexon EV Prime launched: price, features, updates and more

Existing Nexon EV owners can avail the newly introduced features free of cost via a software upgrade.

Tata Motors has changed the name of the Nexon EV with the 30.2 kWh battery to Nexon EV Prime, and has also introduced new features to the SUV. The bestselling electric car now gets additional features from the higher-spec Nexon EV Max. Tata Motors said existing owners of the Nexon EV will also benefit from this update via a software upgrade.

  • Existing Nexon EV owners can avail the update free of charge
  • New features include multi-mode rege, cruise control, iTPMS

Prices have gone up by up to Rs 45,000 over what was previously the Nexon EV. Here’s a look at the detailed price list of the Nexon EV Prime.

Tata Nexon EV Prime: Gets multi-mode regen, cruise control

The Nexon EV Prime gets several new features that were so far exclusive to the higher-spec Nexon EV Max. The biggest addition is the multi-mode regen function with automatic brake lamp activation that switches on the brake lights when regenation is active.

The Nexon EV Prime gets a similar four-level regenerative braking as the Nexon EV Max where Level 0 cuts off regeneration, while it is at its strongest in Level 3. This helps in recharging the batteries on the move, particularly in stop-go traffic or on down slopes, thus increasing effective driving range.

Other additions include cruise control, an indirect tyre pressure monitoring system via the smartphone app and smartwatch-integrated connectivity features.

While the new features will be standard on the Nexon EV Prime, what’s interesting is that Tata Motors will be rolling out these new features to all existing Nexon EV customers via a software update free of cost, starting July 25.

The additional controls and switchgear for the regenerative braking and cruise control on existing Nexon EVs will be added at the service centres, although fitting the additonal hardware could be chargeable. However, Nexon EV owners will have to pay for future software upgrades, which means there could be more in the pipeline. Tata Motors said it will conduct an educational programme on these new features for its customers.

Mechanically, the Nexon EV Prime remains the same as the Nexon EV. Powered by a 129hp electric motor and a 30.2kWh battery pack, it has an ARAI-certified range of 312km.

Tata Nexon EV Max: prices increased by Rs 60,000

Prices for the Nexon EV Max have also gone up by Rs 60,000 across all variants, although there are no updates here. This is the first price hike on the Nexon EV Max since its launch in May this year. Here’s a look at look at the updated price list of the Nexon EV Max.
