Both concepts will preview the brand’s Gen 2 and Gen 3 EV architecutre; Punch EV will also be on display at the event.
Tata Motors, like every year, will have a sprawling pavilion at this year’s Auto Expo 2023. As we reported recently, the Tata Punch EV will be one of the key debuts for the brand at the event. Tata Motors will also take the opportunity to give the audience a sneak peek on its future models via the Curvv and the Avinya concepts.

- Aviniya concept previews Tata’s first born EV platform
- Punch EV will go on sale later this year
Tata Curvv concept to get first public viewing at the Expo
Tata Motors took the wraps off the Curvv concept back in April last year. The Curvv concept essentially previews a future midsize coupe SUV that will come with EV as well as ICE powertrain options that will go on sale by 2024. The Curvv concept gets sharp styling with striking, minimalist, yet futuristic cues, which the brand calls as its “New Digital design language” which will be seen on future Tata SUV line-up.
It’s sloping roofline neatly integrates into the Curvv’s notchback-styled boot as well as a strong shoulder line, squared-off wheel arches and body cladding that add to the SUV’s ruggedness. On the inside it gets a three-layer dashboard, multiple screens and some angular design elements.
The brand had earlier revealed that the production-spec SUV based on the Curvv concept will use the new Generation 2 EV architecture, which has been designed to accommodate multiple bodystyles and powertrain options. The Gen 2 architecture is a heavily modified iteration of the Gen 1 architecture which is currently in use on Tata EVs. The modification allows to fit larger batteries and different powertrain options and even an AWD dual motor set-up.
Avinya previews Tata’s first-born electric platform
The stylish Avinya concept by Tata Motors was unveiled back in April last year and will also see its first public outing alongside the Curvv at the Auto Expo 2023. Essentially, the Avinya concept is a “third step” in Tata Motors’ electrification strategy, this grounds-up EV uses Tata’s more advanced Gen 3 architecture and not the Gen 2 platform that underpins the Curvv concept.
Looking at its proportions and dimensions, it’s clear that the Avinya is nothing but a purpose built EV which has its styling based on batteries and electric motors which are placed at far corners to maximize cabin room. It gets extremely short front and rear overhangs that only help accentuate the long wheelbase. A full width LED light bar sits upfront that is designed to resemble a stretched out ‘T’ logo, along with a uniquely lit solid grille section, slim headlight and smartly styled front splitter. It also gets many concept car-like styling cues like suicide doors and unique floating tail light look along with a glass roof. On the inside, there is no central infotainment screen on the dash; instead it has a slim, well-integrated screen in the dashboard above the sound bar, along with another screen that is located on the steering wheel. It also sees usage of sustainable materials and also gets a unique aroma diffuser for the cabin.
Tata Motors at Auto Expo 2023: what else will be on display?
Apart from the two concepts, the Punch EV will make its debut in close to production form at the event ahead of its market launch later in the year. Tata Motors could also showcase the Punch CNG at the event, which is also in the pipeline for a market launch. Additionally, the recently launched Tiago EV. The Tigor EV and the Nexon EV line-up will also be on display at the event.
There are talks of Tata Motors displaying updated iterations of the Harrier and Safari at the Auto Expo, however there has been no official confirmation on this by the brand. Tata Motors could preview ADAS technology along with updated connected car tech at the event which the brand is expected to introduce in its SUV line-up.
