Tata Motors has taken the wraps off the new Harrier EV concept at the Auto Expo 2023. In what was arguably the biggest surprise at the Auto Expo 2023, Tata Motors unveiled as many as four concepts – the Curvv ICE concept, the Avinya concept, the Harrier EV concept and the Sierra EV concept – at the motor show. The Harrier EV concept has been unveiled in a close-to-production guise and will go on sale in the market in 2024.

Tata Harrier EV Concept: underpinnings
The Harrier EV concept carries over the Land Rover-derived Omega architecture used by the ICE-powered Harrier, and combines that with Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture. Essentially, while the Harrier EV is still based on an ICE platform, it’s heavily re-engineered for electrification. It will see modifications to the fuel tank area, have a flat floor on the inside, will be made lighter and also more energy efficient.
Although Tata did not reveal exact battery capacity or electric motor specifications, the company did mention that it will come with a dual-motor all-wheel drive set-up. The Harrier EV will also feature vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capacities. V2L essentially means that the car can be used to power other external devices, while V2V means the car can charge other electric vehicles.
The Harrier EV can be expected to have a battery capacity of around 60kWh, and return a real-world range of around 400-500km.
Tata Harrier EV Concept: exterior design, features
In terms of design, the Harrier EV looks largely similar to its ICE counterpart, but is also sufficiently differentiated as an EV. Up front, it carries the same split headlamp design, but gets a new LED light bar spanning the width of the SUV. There’s also a new blanked-off grille and a redesigned front bumper that features new angular creases and deep-set, blackened housing for the main headlamp cluster. The central air intake has also been redesigned with a blanked-off panel and more EV-specific touches.
There aren’t many changes in profile, but it gets new ‘.EV’ badges on the fenders, flush door handles and larger concept-like wheels. At the rear, the Harrier EV gets a reprofiled tail-lamp assembly with a new LED light bar running the width of the tail gate. The rear bumper has also been revised with new angular indents and a smoother finish for the body cladding.
The Harrier EV concept appears close to production, and most of these design features will likely make it to the final version. This could also preview the design for the facelift of the ICE-powered Harrier and Safari.
Although we haven’t gotten a clear look at the interior of the Harrier EV, it will likely come with a large touchscreen and a few more features. Tata did confirm connected car tech, over-the-air updates and cloud connected telematic for the Harrier EV.
