Tata electric charging stations, EV charge points across India, upcoming EV chargers

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility will collaborate with Chargezone, Glida, Statiq and Zeon to develop EV infrastructure.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four charge point operators (CPOs) – Chargezone, Glida, Statiq, and Zeon – to further develop charging infrastructure for EVs across the country. The collaboration will see the five companies together set up over 10,000 EV charging stations by FY2025.

  1. TPEM currently has over 4,900 EV chargers in collaboration with Tata Power
  2. Four CPOs currently have a network on nearly 2,000 charging points
  3. New collaboration will see 10,000 new charging stations by FY2025

What does the collaboration entail?

The four CPOs that TPEM has collaborated with currently have a network of nearly 2,000 charging station in key cities across the country. Meanwhile, TPEM also has its own network of over 4,900 public chargers in collaboration with Tata Power.

The MoU will help build on the existing charging infrastructure while also bringing together TPEM’s telematics insights that it has gathered from more than 1.15 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads. TPEM will actively assist the four CPOs in installing chargers at locations most frequented by its EV owners and share insights on how the chargers are being used to help understand and enhance customer experience.

The collaboration will also explore the possibility to roll-out a smart payment gateway through co-branded RFID cards respectively, that should enable easier payments. Furthermore, customers will be able to avail benefits of loyalty programs from these respective CPOs and access a dedicated customer care number for any assistance.

“The need of the hour for accelerating a nationwide charging ecosystem is open collaboration, and we are delighted to announce our strategic collaboration with Chargezone, Glida, Statiq, and Zeon, to accelerate India’s journey towards e-mobility. This collaboration will benefit from TPEM’s unparalleled EV usage insights, coupled with the CPOs’ innovative charging solutions and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Balaji Rajan, chief strategy officer, TPEM.

The lack of a robust and reliable charging network still remains the single biggest hurdle for EV buyers in India even as adoption rates have gradually increased over the years. This collaboration between an OEM and four major CPOs should expedite the development of charging infrastructure, and thereby adoption of EVs across the country.
