Tata Curvv price, Curvv EV range, comparison with rivals, battery and charging -DellyRanks

Curvv EV, the second model on Tata’s acti.ev platform, gets two battery options.

Tata Motors has just launched the all-new Curvv coupe-SUV in its electric version, with prices starting from Rs 17.49 lakh, ex-showroom. It is Tata’s fifth electric offering, the second one based on the acti.ev platform, and the first with a coupe-SUV body style. As with Tata’s existing EVs, the Curvv gets two battery pack options with a range of up to 585km on the MIDC cycle. Let’s look at how the Curvv EV’s range compares against that of its rivals.

Tata Curvv EV range vs rivals

The Curvv gets two battery pack options: 45kWh and 55kWh, with a claimed MIDC range of 502km and 585km, respectively. Both versions use a front-axle-mounted electric motor that produces 150hp on the 45kWh variant and 167hp on the 55kWh variant; torque is the same at 215Nm.

Tata Curvv EV range vs rivals
Model Curvv EV ZS EV Nexon EV XUV400
Battery 45kWh/55kWh 50.3kWh 34.5kW/39.5kW 34.5kW/39.5kW
Range (MIDC) 502km/585km 461km 325km/465km 375km/456km
Charger 7.2kW 3.3kW/7.4kW 3.3kW/7.2kW 3.3kW/7.2kW
Charging time 6.5-7.9 hrs 8.5-9 hrs 4.3-6 hrs 6.5-13.5 hrs

The Curvv’s 55kWh battery is now the largest in the segment and, therefore, offers the highest range – by a very healthy margin. Meanwhile, the smaller 45kWh unit is only second to the MG ZS EV’s 50.3kWh battery, but despite that, it has a higher claimed range. This means the Curvv’s battery efficiency is much better than the ZS EV’s. The Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 have much smaller batteries but are comparable with the ZS EV in their long-range form. None, however, are in the same league as the Curvv.

As for chargers, the ZS EV has the fastest one, a 7.4kW AC unit. While the other Curvv rivals get 7.2kW and 3.3kW AC options, the Curvv only comes with the 7.2kW charger. The Nexon EV takes the least time to juice up, and the XUV400 takes the longest.

Tata Curvv petrol, diesel launch next month

For now, Tata has only revealed prices for the Curvv EV, but the coupe-SUV will also have ICE variants, whose prices will be disclosed next month. This model would even debut an all-new 1.2-litre TGDi engine, more about which you can read here.
