In a recent interview while promoting her upcoming film Gangster Ganga, Supriya Pathak candidly spoke about her close relationship with Shahid Kapoor.
Supriya Pathak, who married Pankaj Kapur in 1988, has had a unique journey when it comes to family relationships. Pankaj was previously married to actress Neelima Azeem and together they had a son, Shahid Kapoor. After their divorce in 1984, Pankaj went on to marry Supriya and despite this complex family background, today, we see Shahid sharing strong bonds not only with his birth mother, Neelima, but also with stepmother, Supriya. In a recent interview, while promoting her upcoming film Gangster Ganga, Supriya candidly spoke about her close relationship with Shahid and calls the actor her own son, she goes on to share that she considers the Jersey actors’ children as her grandchildren.
The Ram Leela actress told ANI, “Shahid is my son and his kids are my grandchildren. I share a great bond with both my grandchildren and as a family, we all put in efforts to strengthen our bonds. We are very family-oriented and believe in sticking together through thick and thin. I feel as generations pass, the bonds within families evolve. I have a friendlier and more open relationship with my daughter than I had with my mother.”
While Pankaj Kapur has Shahid Kapoor with his first wife, Neeliima Azeem, after marrying Supriya Pathak, they welcomed two children into their lives, a son named Ruhaan Kapoor and a daughter named Sanah Kapur. Neelima later married Rajesh Khattar and together, the couple had a son Ishaan Khatter.
In an earlier interview with Twinkle Khanna for Tweak India, Supriya Pathak spoke about her first meeting with Shahid and said, “I met Shahid when he was six years old. He was the cutest baby I’d seen. He was such a lovely child. He was very warm and he did not have any defiant reactions towards me nor did I have them too. So, when we met, it was instantly liking each other as people and I think that is what just carried on. Though there were many times when he was not with us, so whenever he would come and we kind of always, we reacted to each other as people.”
Further, she shared an anecdote about her mother’s concerns regarding her marriage with Pankaj Kapur. Her mother had doubts about the stability of the wedding and repeatedly expressed the fear that Pankaj would leave her. Despite her mother’s worries, the Khichdi actress remained confident and continued with her marriage.
