Bollywood mourns Manmohan Singh’s passing; Sunny Deol, Genelia Deshmukh, and others honour his legacy.
India mourns the loss of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 at AIIMS in New Delhi on December 26. The veteran Congress leader, economist, and architect of India’s economic reforms served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s history.
As news of his demise broke, Bollywood celebrities took to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to the legendary statesman.
Sunny Deol shared a heartfelt message on his X (formerly Twitter) account, writing, “I’m deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in shaping India’s economic liberalization. His wisdom, integrity & contributions to the nation’s growth will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences.”

Actor Nimrat Kaur described Singh as a “scholar-statesman” in her emotional note. “A scholar-statesman, an architect of India’s economic reforms, his peerless wisdom and humility has left an indelible mark on the fabric of our nation. Rest in grace and glory Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. Satnaam wahe guru,” she wrote.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar honored Singh’s transformative role in shaping modern India. “The passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji marks the end of an era. As the architect of India’s economic reforms, his dedication to public service has shaped modern India. My deepest condolences to his family members & admirers,” he shared.
Actress Genelia Deshmukh called Singh a “statesman, economist & a true patriot” in her tribute, writing, “Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of our former PM, Shri Manmohan Singh ji. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, wisdom & selfless service to the nation. May his soul rest in peace.”
Actor Riteish Deshmukh shared throwback photos of his father, Vilasrao Deshmukh, with Singh. “Today we have lost one of India’s finest Prime Ministers. The man who propelled India’s economic growth. He epitomised dignity and humility. We will forever be indebted to his legacy. May his soul rest in eternal glory,” he wrote.
