Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir, who recently appeared in Jigra and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, opened up about her life and career in a recent interview. Being in the film industry for decades, the actress has got an opportunity to work and interact with many popular faces. During the interaction, she shared an interesting story related to how Sunil Dutt initially did not like Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic baritone voice.

In conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Sheeba Sabir stated that Sunil Dutt cast Amitabh Bachchan in a mute character in the 1971 film Reshma Aur Shera because he didn’t like his voice. She added, “In fact, Dutt sahab (Sunil Dutt) told me, ‘We hated his voice. His voice sounds similar to a radio jockey.’” However, the actress mentioned that at the time, no one could fathom that Amitabh Bachchan’s voice would be bigger than him. Apart from playing the lead role, Sunil Dutt directed Reshma Aur Shera.

Sheeba Shabir also revealed that her father-in-law, Manmohan Sabir, who produced Amitabh Bachchan’s debut film Saat Hindustani, had the same opinion about the actor’s deep voice. Sheeba recalled, “He told me, ‘Ek hero aata tha hamare ghar mein aur aake mere pairon mein baitha tha. Humko lagta tha kaisi se awaaz hai iske, gunjti hui’ (A hero used to come to our house and sit at my feet. I used to find his voice strange, it was booming).”

On the work front, Amitabh is currently hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16. He was recently seen in Vettaiyan opposite Rajinikanth.

Sheeba Shabir was most recently seen in a key role in Alia Bhatt’s Jigra. Speaking about bagging the role and being in the industry for so long, the actress told Mathrubhumi, “The question of a comeback film is really defunct because I didn’t really go anywhere. I continued to act in films even after marriage. I was sporadically doing films. Both ‘Ghaath’ and ‘Dum’I did post my marriage. I also had a very nice guest appearance in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani’ last year. There is not a question of me going somewhere and then making my comeback.”
